Sammye Frances Ruth Brown

Sammye was born in Velasco, Texas, on September 15, 1914, in the home of her grandparents, Sewall and Frances Brown. Her parents were Ford and Ruth Brown, who owned and operated Brown's Dry Goods in Freeport. She attended Freeport Grammar School, graduated from Freeport High School and attended the University of Texas in Austin. On June 2, 1938, she married J. Carlton Greer and they remained in Freeport where they owned and operated Brown's Dry Goods.
They were blessed by two adored children, Julie Frances Greer and Joseph Carlton Greer Jr. Sammye took an active role as her children progressed through Brazosport Independent School District.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ford S. Brown and Ruth George Brown; her husband, J. Carlton Greer; daughter, Julie Greer; and many lifelong friends.
She is survived by her son, Joe C. Greer Jr. and wife, Bettie; her treasured grandchildren, Kelly, Carlton, Cara, and Julie; many cousins, nieces and nephews, friends and many other children she embraced as Granny Sammye.

Sammye was born in Velasco, Texas, on September 15, 1914, in the home of her grandparents, Sewall and Frances Brown. Her parents were Ford and Ruth Brown, who owned and operated Brown's Dry Goods in Freeport.
