Services for James P. Booth, 85, of Temple will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Temple with the Rev. Connally Dugger and the Rev. Ernest Phifer officiating.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. in the Luling City Cemetery in Luling.
He died Monday, Jan. 14, in a Temple hospital.
Mr. Booth was born in Friendswood to William Henry Booth and Claude Durant Booth. He served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He attended John Tarleton College and later the University of Houston.
He married Joyce Gary on Feb. 15 1947, in Alvin. He was employed there by Phillips Petroleum. In 1963 he moved to Baytown where he worked for Arco Petroleum. He was also an architect and rancher. In 1981, Mr. Booth retired and moved to Temple.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church for many years where he served in numerous leadership positions. He was a 32nd degree Mason for 52 years, and was a member of the Belton Lodge and Scottish Rite. He was honored with the Brandon/Carroll Society award for the years of support he gave the Scottish Rite Hospital.
Survivors are his wife, Joyce Booth of Temple; a son, Gary Booth of Temple; a daughter, Susan Booth Kuykendall of Temple; a sister, Lulu B. Owen, of Temple; and a grandson.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Booth.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 102 N. 2nd St., Temple 76501; or the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn St., Dallas, Texas 75219.
Visitation will be 4:30-6 p.m. today at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple.
