John Alden Rodgers was born in Nashville, TN on October 20, 1930 and died on July 12, 2014.
His parents were the late Susie Boston Rodgers & A. Herbert Rodgers. He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Jamison Rodgers, and his brother, Robert B. Rodgers
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Rodgers Thurmond; son, John Mellinger Rodgers, his stepson, Edward Jarrell Woosley; granddaughter, Lacey Marguerite Thurmond; sister, Suzanne Rodgers Nelms and her husband Frank; and several nieces and nephews, both in Tennessee and Texas.
He attended Parmer School in Nashville and was a graduate of Montgomery Bell Academy and the University of Kentucky in Lexington, where he served as president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and was a member of the Interfraternity Council.
During the Korean War, he entered the USAF, where he served with the 317th troop carrier wing in Munich Germany as a 1st Lt. After military service, he was employed by Continental Oil Co. in Houston and Midland, TX as well as Salt Lake City, UT and Oklahoma City, OK.
He returned to Nashville in 1953 and was employed as Vice President by Guaranty Mortgage Company and later Vice President at Commerce Union Bank. In 1982, he founded his own commercial real estate company.
An avid equestrian, he participated in the Little Pony Races at the Iroquois Steeplechase, and later he successfully showed American Saddlebred horses throughout the South. He served as president of the Tennessee Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association and spent many years at his beloved farm, Foxtrot, in Cornersville where he rode with the Hillsboro Hounds. 
He is past president of the Exchange Club of Nashville, the Big Brothers, and the Belle Meade Condo Association. He was a member of The Thoroughbred Club of America, Spindletop Hall in Lexington, KY, Belle Meade Country Club, and Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Honorary Pallbearers: William Cammack, Harold Castner, John Donnelly, Homer Gibbs, Henry Hooker, John Jay Hooker, John R. Ingram, Harold Jackson, Robert Kitchel, James Perkins, James Stadler, Jake Wallace, Members of the Hillsboro Hounds and Members of the Exchange Club in Nashville.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. with visitation following on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Covenant Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jim Bauchman, celebrant.
