Killed by train
W. L. Selman of Leon County is Run Over Near Jewett, Tex., Sept. 17.
W. L. Selman, a pioneer citizen of this county, was accidentally killed by the Houston and Texas Central construction train near his place, west of Jewett, late this afternoon. It is supposed that he did not hear the train in time to get out of its way or else his foot became caught in some way while he was attempting to cross the railroad track and as the train was backing out of town and going toward him the train crew did not see him in time to stop before it was too late. His body was horribly mangled and bruised from his waist up.
Uncle Willie, as he was best known and called bt everyone, was 82 years of age and an old Mexican War veteran and leaves four grown daughters and five sons, all of whom are married except the youngest son, besides a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a great host of friends and relatives.
