Individual Details
Nancy Ferguson
(1 Jan 1807 - 14 Jan 1892)
Nancy was a spirited little woman, scarcely weighing more than 100 pounds, but a true, strong pioneer woman. When the family came to settle in the Peters Colony, they became concerned about the threat of a Comanche raid. The men were loading the wagons for the trip back to Tennessee, when Nancy balked. She took a seat on a fallen log and told the family that she was never going back to the poor hills of Tennessee. No amount of talking from the men changed her mind, so the men unloaded the wagons and began looking for land. Both Nancy and her husband lived out a happy life here.
