Jacqueline Ruth Greer

(21 Jan 1906 - 17 May 1966)

This may be Jacqueline R Greer Brady, who died in San Francisco, CA on May 17, 1966. Findagrave: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/121353938/jacqueline-r-brady Her year of birth is slippery. In 1920 in Arkansas with her parents, she is about 13, born 1907. In 1930 in Idaho Falls, she is 21, and her name is now Jacqueline. All those records have her born in TX. Married Governor James Hezikiah Brady in 1935. Name Jacqueline. Haven't yet found her in 1940. The couple lived all over the place. Her obit says born in Arkansas. Other records say same. However, I wonder. Wish I could find her in 1940.

Her parents were Columbus Knox Greer and his wife Laura Therneau, who married in 1903 in Texas. For some reason, in most articles, he is referred to as Thomas. Only in one census record, in 1920, in Arkansas, was he noted as Tom Greer. Jac had 2 known siblings, Thomas Henry Greer, and Dorothy Greer [Walker]. Their father died in 1947, and this note about his death was in the paper as Jacqueline returned from his funeral:
Arrives for Visit
Mrs. G. J. Brady, former Idaho Falls resident but now of Warrenville, Conn., arrived in the city Saturday to visit friends and relatives. Mrs. Brady is enroute back to Connecticut after attending the funeral of her father, Thomas Greer, also a former resident, in Portland, Ore., this week. Mrs. Greer, and daughter, Mrs. Carl Walters [sic: Walter], of Boston, Mass., the former Dorothy Greer of Idaho Falls, plan to fly from Portland to Boston next week.

More Notes:
One good thing that confirms she was the daughter of "Thomas" and Laura, is that her mother's maiden name of Therneau is given for her in the California Death Index. An item in her baptism record, which gave her birth as January 21, 1908, gave her mother's name as Ann Jones, which is not explained. There is some discrepancy about her date and place of birth. Her 1910-1930 census records give Texas. Her birth year in the baptism record was given as 1910, and in the 1910 census with her parents, where her name is recorded as Ruth, she is listed as age 4, born in Texas. The 1920 record for her, again with the name of Ruth, gives an age of 13, or born about 1907 in Texas. The 1930 census, where she is a roomer in Idaho Falls, working as a Society Editor, gives her age as 21, or born about 1909, and again in Texas. She could not be found in the 1940 census. Her marriage record in 1935, for birth place, said "of Fayettsville, Ark.". That record may not have been informed by Jac. Arkansas is the place where she went to college and where her family lived in 1920.
As Jac and Gov had no children, we are dependent upon these old records to inform us about her origins.
It is thought that her sister Dorothy Greer Walker died in 1995. Dorothy married Carl E Walter, a native of Maryland.
