Individual Details
Mary Marsh
(12 Mar 1659 - 24 Nov 1697)
She is easily confused with her mother-in-law also named Mary Marsh, who married John Page.
Note: There is no extant grave marker for Mary Marsh, but having died only six weeks after her husband, Cornelius Page Sr, there is little doubt that she is buried by him. A genealogy of the Marsh family gives her birth date as 12 May 1659, but the original Hingham vital record from Hubbard's Journal clearly shows the date as 12 March 1658[/9].
Mary was the daughter of Onesiphorous Marsh and Hannah Cutler. She was married in Haverhill on 16 Jan 1684 to the widower Cornelius Page, the son of John Page and Mary Marsh of Haverhill. Her husband had married first Martha Clough with whom he had six children, after which he and Mary had five more children. Mary and her husband died within two months of each other, leaving behind several minor children. Mary's children with Cornelius:
* Joseph, b. 21 Sep 1686, d. Haverhill 13 Feb 1686/7
* Joseph, b. 12 Sep 1689, m. 1710 Mary THOMPSON, b. 27 July 1691, the daughter of John Thompson and Elizabeth Brewer. The Page genealogy by Case and Sanderson (1978) states that Joseph probably died in 1760. Joseph and Mary had eleven or twelve children born 1711 to 1736 in Haverhill, but lost five of them during an epidemic in March and April 1737. The family lived in the north parish of Haverhill, which became the town of Plaistow, New Hampshire in the 1740s.
* Sarah, b. 23 Nov 1691, d. Haverhill 18 June 1762, and apparently never married. Even though she was fairly elderly, she was nevertheless called the daughter of Cornelius and Mary "Mash" in her death record.
* Thomas, b. 24 Feb 1693/4, d. Haverhill 4 Oct 1771, aged 77, m. Boxford, Mass. 2 Nov 1715 Lydia BIXBY, b. Boxford 3 Feb 1694/5, d. Haverhill 16 Nov 1744, the daughter of Jonathan Bixby and Sarah Smith. The birth record for Lydia in Boxford gives the year as "1694-1696?", but her parents' marriage date, and birth of her next sibling strongly suggests that she was born Feb 1694/5. Her death date is from the Page genealogy (1978), but is not found in the vital record of Haverhill. In 1735, Thomas was one of the founders of the West Parish church in Haverhill. He and Lydia had nine children born in Haverhill from 1718 to 1738. Thelda Brigham's genealogy of the Page family states "Chase's History says Thomas with brother Joseph was a Proprietor of Pennycook [Concord, NH] and settled there." (Appdx, p 109) If so, it must have been after his last child was born in Haverhill in 1738.
* Cornelius, b. 20 May 1696, d. Haverhill 14 April 1764, m. (1) Haverhill 9 Dec 1729, Mary COOPER, b. c. 1710, d. Haverhill 16 Feb 1755. He m. (2) Haverhill 27 Nov 1759 the widow Ruth (DOW) Haseltine, d. Haverhill 8 Nov 1761, widow of Jonathan Haseltine, b. Bradford 12 April 1694, d. Haverhill 26 Feb 1753, son of Abraham Haseline and Elizabeth Longhorn. Cornelius and Mary had four children born in Haverhill 1730 to 1738/9. He was listed in the Haverhill town rate on 10 Dec 1741.
Children: John Page Jr, Onesiphirus Page, Benjamin Page, Mary Page Dow Shepherd, Abraham Page, Joseph Page, Cornelius Page, Sarah Page Sanders, Elizabeth Page, Mercy Page Clough, an infant son, and Ephraim Page.
