    Theidentity of the William Smith who fathered many Smith children in Topsfield,Essex County, Massachusetts, from the 1650s to 1680s is uncertain. FamilySearch attributes most of them to a William Smith (2MRL-CM7), who supposedly marriedMagdalena Canfield (L5YV-9V6) on 6 July 1657 in Topsfield, Essex County,Massachusetts. However, on that date William Smith (LR5G-JG1) married RebeccaKeyes (LR8H-BF1) spelledRebecka Keas. This is proven by the source at https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q29G-VT9W
    WilliamSmith (LR5G-JG1) is named in Family Search as William Newton Smith, though itis not evident where the middle name came from. He and the William Smith whomarried Magdalena Canfield are both stated in Family Search to have beenchristened 8 Jul 1645, so they are confused. Moreover, that would make him only12 years old when married, which is impossible.
