Left home in 1851 at the age of 15 after learning his trade. Joined the Bohemian army in 1853, Graduated in Vienna in 1859, came home in 1861, Married Elizabeth Cinterhoff in 1864. Came to America in 1867. Had 11 Children: 5 girls and 6 boys. Spoke 7 languages (English, German, Bohemian, Austrian, Polish, French, and one other not known. He was a blacksmith by trade in Bohemia. A rancher in America.
