Ebenezer Spooner

"Ebenezer Spooner was born 29 May 1724 at Rochester, Plymouth County, Massachusetts to William Spooner and his wife Alice Blackwell. He was married on January 29, 1745 to Sarah Robinson, a daughter of James and Patience (Ruggles) Robinson. She was born February 9, 1720.
Ebenezer was a farmer. He married and lived in Rochester, Plymouth County, Massachusetts until about 1748. At that time, he moved to Hardwick, Worcester County, Massachusetts. There he lived on the east side of the river (now New Braintree). Sarah, the first child, was born February 23, 1746 at Rochester. All of the older children were born at Hardwick from May 1748 to February 24, 1764. Some time prior to 1776, he removed to Warren, Connecticut.
He served in the Continental Army for a time during the French and Indian War, and was in privateer service for a time in the Revolutionary War on the sloop "Charming Polly," which was captured by the enemy May 16, 1777. The crew were committed to "Old Mill Prison," Plymouth, England. After a time, Ebenezer Spooner escaped; after delays and adventures he reached home.
The latter years of his life, and those of his wife, were passed in the family of his son-in-law Jasper Barnes at Monkton, Vermont. Ebenezer Spooner died there in 1800. His wife Sarah (Robinson) Spooner lived until 1806."
