Vincent A. Groover Sr.

Vincent Groover Sr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Vincent A. Groover Sr., 72, passed away Nov. 15, 2009, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Mr. Groover was born July 23, 1937 to the late William and Marie Groover Sr. in Ritchie, Md. Vincent served our country proudly for more than 24 years in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed aboard the USS Shangri-La, USS Lexington, USS Wasp, and the USS America. He served with A-6 Squadrons VA 176, VA 36, and VA 42. Mr. Groover was also a dedicated family man and member of the community. While his sons were Scouts, he served as cubmaster Pack 424 and scoutmaster Troop 424. He was a longtime member and past president of the Tidewater MG Classics, and a member of the Aragona Civic League. His family and friends will always remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed. Left to cherish his memory are a dedicated wife of 52 years, Pamela J. Groover; daughter, Diana L. Church and husband Ray; two sons, Vincent A. Groover Jr. and David P. Groover; five grandchildren, Dana M. Hadley and husband Terry, Paul Downing Groover, Jared L. Church, Dustin A. Groover, and Ashly E. Groover; great- granddaughter, Elizabeth B. Hadley; brother, William L. Groover Jr. and wife Dolores; many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents; sister, Gwendoleine M. Densmore Secrest; and two brothers, L. Gerard Groover and Eugene B. Groover. The family would like to express their gratitude to the many friends who supported them during his illness. Also, they would like to thank the staff at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for their excellent care. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at Rosewood- Kellum Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.
