"Genealogy of the Barney Family in America" by Preston, Eugene Dimon & Barney, Wm. Clifford, (Barney Family Historical Association: Springfield VA) 1990.
This 1020-page volume gives dates, family relationships, biographies, wills, estate settlements, etc. I begins with Edward Barney (abt 1570) of Bradenham, Buckinghamshire, England and up to many descendants born in 1900s. It is quite complete and quite well documented.

Reason attached to person: pgs. 5, 9-10 of this book contain information regarding John Barney, his wife Mary Throop and their 10 children as follows: 9. John Barney, b. Aug. 1, 1665; md. Mary Throop. ...9. John Barney, son of Jacob, was born August 1, 1665 in Salem. He lived in Bristol, Swansea, and after 1710 in Taunton where is bought the house and land of John Rogers, formerly the residence of Robert Thornton. He was at one time a Deputy Sheriff at Taunton. He served as a representative to the General Court, from Swansea, in June 1706. He died at Taunton May 1, 1728; his will, dated February 22, 1727, proved May 25, 1728, mentions all children including his daughters by their married names, as well as their husbands' names. Also mentioned is his wife Mary (Taunton Probate Records). He married, November 4, 1686, in Bristol, Mass., Mary Throop, the daughter of Deacon William and Mary (Chapman) Throop. She was born April 6, 1667 in Barnstable, Mass. She was admitted to the Congregational Church at Bristol on July 6, 1696. Apparently, she married second, Capt. John Andrews on May 20, 1736; this marriage is recorded as Mrs. Mary Barney, and was probably not Mrs. Mary (Danforth) Barney, widow of John Barney's son, Jocob Barney. Capt. John Andrews was born September 20, 1662 in Boston, the son of John and Jannah (Jackson) Andrews. In his will, dated Sept. 30, 1736, proved Aug 17, 1742, his widow Mary made an adjustment of the estate with her step-children. She was perhaps living in 1762. John and Mary (Throop) Barney had ten children, the first seven born at Bristol, R.I. and the others at Swansea, Mass: ... Mary[,] ... John[,] ... Elizabeth[,] ... Anna[,] ... Jacob[,] ... John[,] ... William[,] ... Jonathan[,] ... Sarah [and] ... Joseph ...
