Sarah Susannah Hall was born to John and Susanna Hall in Tennessee. They moved to Nacogdoches, Texas about 1838. Sarah's parents both died within a short time of each other in 1840, the same year that Sarah married Captain Henry Madison Smith. They moved to Rusk County, Texas, and later to Coryell County, Texas. They donated land for a church there.
