He was 70. Born in Dallas in 1927, Alcorn grew up attending public schools in Dallas; Houston and Tulsa, OKla. He graduated from Houston's Lamar High School in 1945. After serving two years in the Navy, Alcorn entered the University of Texas where he served as grand master of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Alcorn graduated with a geology degree in 1952. Alcorn is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jean Walston Alcorn, former University of Houston System Regent; daughters Dorothy Anne Henderson of Galveston and Lexey Elizabeth Fender of Victoria; son Charles William Alcorn III of Houston; grandchildren Gage Sterling Fender; Katilee Martin Fender, Dorothy Claire Henderson, Holly Marie Henderson, Charles Wagner Alcorn and William Duer Alcorn; and brothers Fred Cragin Alcorn and George Avery Alcorn, both of Houston. Pallbearers are John Bailey of Houston, Dr. Daniel Beekler of Victoria, Robert Hewitt Sr. of Victoria, Frank Liddell of Houston, Howard Rose of Austin, Duer Wagner of Ft. Worth, James Wallace of Denver and Carlisle Maxwell of Columbia, S.C. Honorary pallbearers are former, Secretary of State James Baker, Fred Armstrong, Joseph Bander, John Caldwell, Jay Cliburn, Jack Currie, Wayne Gibbens, Kerry McCan, Venable Proctor, Rex Reitz, Rocky Sanders, Lorenzo Taylor, Joseph Tilley, Daniel Walker, Thomas Marion O'Connor and John Gould. Funeral services will be conducted at 11am Thurs. July 2 at First Presbyterian Church at 2408 N. Navarro St., Victoria, TX. Interment services will be held immediately after at Memorial Park Cemetery, Victoria, Texas.
