Herbert L. Kennedy
(31 Aug 1905 - 6 Jul 1910)
Deplorable Accident
One of the most deplorable accidents we have ever been called upon to report; occurred Wednesday at the home of Mr. W. R. Stone, east of town.
Herbert, the little son of Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Kennedy, scarcely 5 years old, was playing about the yard at Mr. Stone's, where, his mother had left him while she went to town. In the yard was a barrel of water standing on a small platform. The boy climbed up on this platform to get to the barrel and the platform gave way, throwing him to the ground, the barrel falling with him and striking the little fellow's head with crushing force. Mr.Stone, who was some distance from the scene of accident, was hurriedly called, and took the little body tenderly in his arms and carried it to the house, but little Herbert was beyond human aid, the spotless soul had gone to God. We pass over the harrowing scenes enacted when the awful truth was made known to that mother. It is not necessary to dwell upon such things. We can only express sympathy and pray to heal the bruised hearts of the bereaved parents.
Little Herbert is with God and his angels; the body that had housed the immortal soul for a few brief years, was laid to rest Thursday evening, a large number being present at the services which were conducted by Rev. Parrack at the grave.
