Jacob LaGrone was the son of John William Adam LaGrone and Mary Magdalene Houseal. He was born October 17, 1785 in Newberry District, South Carolina. He married Catherine "Kate" Riser in 1810 in Newberry. By 1815 they were in Crawford County, Georgia. Jacob appeared on the 1836 tax list for the new Republic of Texas. His wife Kate died on January 4, 1860. Jacob died in Harrison County on July 27, 1863 at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 10 days. He was buried in the Old LaGrone Cemetery which is directly across the highway from the Lagrone Chapel Cemetery.
