Dewey Willis Eubanks

Norman resident, Dewey Willis Eubanks, 83, died Saturday, 3 November 2007 at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City after a short illness. Services will be at the Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook, Norman, OK at 1 :00 PM Thursday, 8 November 2007. Dewey was born 12 January 1924 in Atoka, Oklahoma to J.P. and Jenny Evelyn (Downs) Eubanks. Dewey Graduated from Devol High School in southern Oklahoma and was attending the University of Oklahoma when he volunteered to serve in World War II. He was severely wounded on the first wave of the attacks on Iwo Jima. Dewey never gave up and worked as a farmer in Ringling, Oklahoma until moving to Norman in 1956 with his family and worked at the First Christian Church, McFarlin Methodist Church, and finally the 'Norman Post Office. In 1968, Dewey was selected as the outstanding handicapped U.S. Postal employee of the year for the three state Wichita district. Dewey is retired from the U.S. Postal service. In retirement, Dewey enjoyed traveling and the University of Oklahoma sports and has spent the past six years with all of his friends at the Rivermont Retirement Center in Norman. Dewey was preceded in his death by his wife, Christine (Folsom) Eubanks, and 10 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Cameron Weber of Norman; son and daughter-in-law, Rich (Mike) and Carol Eubanks of Silver Springs, FL; grandson, Kevin Weber; granddaughter, Wende Weber; and one grandson, Weston Weber, all of Norman, OK. He is also survived by one sister, Thelma Scott (98) of Ringling, OK, and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, Dewey would have preferred that contributions be made to the University of Oklahoma Sooner Club.
