Ernest Farrell
(1889 - 1966)
"My great grandfather, Ernest Farrell (1889 -1966) married Mary Hillyard - my great grandmother. Ernest also had a son called Ernest - my grandfather. He was Stanley and Lillian's brother, and a half brother to Norman. My great grandfather re-married Ethel Harrison when Mary died - she was quite young. They had one son - Norman.
Ernest (my grandfather) married Annie Isherwood. They had 4 children: Ernest (the III!), Christine, Margaret and my mother, Norma."
"I have documents relating to your husband's great grandfather (and mine) that show he went to stay in Rhode Island with Mary, his wife, along with Stanley and Lillian, both very young. He was served his draft papers while he was there. Ernest had a brother who moved out there. I think Ernest and his family were staying with him. There are ship passenger lists and censuses to show the family were there. Also, Stanley's younger sister, was registered in the USA (birth registration).
There are a couple of voyagers out there and back. One of Mary travelling alone to the USA to see Ernest, and there is also one of Mary and her mother Martha travelling to Rhode Island. I've a feeling they were planning on moving there permanently, but for some reason, changed their minds. Maybe because of the war, and I think Mary was expecting my grandfather at this point in time. We know that Ernie served in the war."
