Earl Finbar Murphy - A memorial service is scheduled for Professor Earl Finbar Murphy on Thursday July 27, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. in Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Broad Ripple, with calling there on Wednesday July 26, 2006 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday 1 hour prior. Burial will be in Mooresville Town Cemetery. Pastor Al Goertemiller will officiate.
Earl passed away on July 23, 2006 and was born in Indianapolis on November 1, 1928. His parents, Joe and Carroll Murphy and his beloved wife Joanne Wharton preceded him in death.
He will be greatly missed by his sisters, Carol J. Kocher and her husband Ray of Indianapolis, Roselyn C. Murphy of Roswell, New Mexico. Other survivors are nephews, Kevin Kocher of LaFontain, Indiana and his children, Sean, Khara, Katelyn, Scott and Diane Kocher of Madison, Indiana and their children Dustin, Brandon and Nichole. Other family members are special in-laws Richard and Dottie Wharton, Mike and Cathy Brady.
Professor Murphy received his A.B. and M.A. degrees at Butler University. He finished first in his law class at Indiana University and became a graduate law fellow at Yale University where he earned an LLM and a JSD (Master's and Doctorate in Law). He joined the Ohio State Law faculty in 1969 and earned the C. William O'Neill Professorship in 1981. He was chosen "Professor of the Year" in 1991. He retired from his teaching career in 2005.
