Mrs. Helen Hortense Wood Gowan, 78, widow of the late Rev. Roy R. Gowan, of Robin Court Peach Valley, died at home Saturday morning. Native of Greenville County; daughter of the late Robert Perry and Mary Etta Raines Wood; member of Arcadia First Baptist Church; member of the Mothers Sunday School Class. Surviving; daughter, Mrs. Phoebe Davis of the home; brother, Broadus C. Wood of Greenville; four grandchildren; one great grandchild. Services 11 Monday at Arcadia First Baptist by the Rev. Choice Watson; burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville. Pallbearers; Tommy Ford, Otis Gregory, Luther Campbell, Bill, Harmon, and Bobby Wood, Curt Spearman. Honorary escort will be the Mothers Sunday School Class and the Hortense Gowan Mission Action Group and Hospice Group. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Arcadia and the Hospice Program. Family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.
