The Dadeville Head Light & News, September 11, 1875:
Sarah Vaughn was born in Mechlenburg, Virginia, on the 16th day of May 1803; was married in the same county on the 5th day of April 1821, to James Vaughan, who survives her. She, with her husband and three children, removed to Tallapoosa County in this state in 1837, where they have ever since lived. Mrs. Vaughn departed this life on the 6th day of September 1875 at 10 o'clock, 45 minutes, p.m. She was a lady of deep and sincere piety; was a consistent Christian, and left abundant evidence of her full acceptance with her Savior, and a triumphant death. She was the stay and comfort of her husband, who is now of a ripe old age, and her children. She was the mother of Col. John A. Vaughan, who died a few years since, of Capt. Sam Vaughan and our townsman F A. Vaughan, and of several daughters who live in this county... She had for a lifetime been a consistent member of the Methodist Church.
