Bernard (Ben) Barton, 87, of Mart, Texas, passed away on October 10, 2022.
Ben was born in Bastrop, Texas, on December 24, 1934. He graduated from Bastrop High School as Salutatorian. After graduation he went to work for the Texas Highway Department where he did traffic studies, working his way up to Head of Automation Department as they ushered in the computer age.
Ben Married Mary Jo Allen May 19, 1955, in Luling, Texas and together they had four children.
Ben and Jeanne married on July 1, 1977, in Austin, Texas and after his retirement from the Highway Department, they moved to Mart, Texas, where they raised Registered Limousin Cattle and enjoyed ranching. Discussions usually involved cattle and politics but always included the weather.
Ben is preceded in death by his father, William Barton, and his mother, Ella (Wilhelm) Barton, and also his granddaughter Stacy Barton.
Ben is survived by his wife, Jeanne Barton, of Mart, Tx.; his brother, Weldon Barton, and wife, Joan Barton, of Bastrop, Tx.; his sister, Bonnie Rose, and husband, Mike Rose, of Dripping Springs, Tx.; and his sister, Betty Christiansen, and husband, David Christiansen, of North Carolina. He is also survived by his sons, Chuck Barton, and wife Michele of Jarrell, Tx.; Bob Barton and wife DeeDee of Taylor, Tx.; Travis Barton and wife Amy of Houston, Tx.; and daughter, Deb Lowden, and husband Darrel of Luling, TX: and stepson David North of Mart, Tx.
Additional survivors include 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; niece and nephews; and a host of loved ones and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Littlepage Funeral Home chapel in Mart, with visitation from 12 to 1 prior to the service.
