William Lane is the ancestor who assisted in establishing American Independence, while acting in the capacity of: Soldier in the Continental Army.
William Lane served in the War of the Revolution from Spotsylvania County, Virginia, as a private in Capt. Moses Hawkins' Company, also called Capt. John Overton’s Company, 10th Va. Regiment; reported to have enlisted Jan. 7, 1777. (Adjutant General’s Office, War Dept., Washington, D.C.)
William Lane proved his service as a Revolutionary Soldier and was allowed two draws in the Georgia Land Lottery of 1827. At that time he was of Morgan County, Georgia, and drew land lying in Troop County, Georgia. Revolutionary Soldiers were allowed two draws in this lottery. His second draw was for land in Lee County. (See Land Lottery Reprint for 1827, page 103. (Martha Lou Houston). The index to this book omits some names, among them William Lane, as shown on page 103.)
William Lane had two draws in the 1806 Land Lottery and drew Lots No. 111 in Morgan County, Ga., which he sold to his son, William Lane, Jr.
This is the same proof as that accepted for my father Alvin V. Lane, Number 53594.
The services of my ancestor, Thomas Allen, during the War of the Revolution were as follows: Soldier in the Virginia Service.
