James "Jim" Preston Beam, 71, of Lamesa passed away on August 21, 2010 in Lubbock. Burial will be at a later date in Ira Cemetery of Scurry County. Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.
He was born on August 31, 1938 in Lamesa to Wren and Gertrude Beam. He married Linda Murphy on September 5, 1964 at Murphy Ranch in Grady, N.M. Jim was a farmer and rancher and took great enjoyment in watering his yard. He was a member of the Dawson County 4H Adult Leaders and a strong supporter of the Future Farmers of America. He was awarded the Silver Spur award for 4H leadership.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; brothers, Ernest, Lynn and Neal Beam, all of Lamesa; and family members, Kasey, Shawn and Alyssa O'Connor of Wolfforth, James Dylan of Lubbock and James Robert of Lamesa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Ashlynn O'Connor; and sisters, Emma Ward and Joyce Beam.
