William Barry Grove

(15 Jan 1764 - 20 Mar 1818)

U.S. Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the bar and proceeded to practice law in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was a trustee of the University of North Carolina, president of the Fayetteville Branch of the Bank of the United States and a member of the North Carolina State House of Commons, (1786, 88-89). In 1791, he was elected as a Pro-Administration to the Second and Third Congresses, reelected as Federalist to the Fourth Congress through the Seventh Congresses, serving until 1803. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 54.
