Louis John "Ossie" Hamel Jr.

Louis "Ossie" Hamel Jr., 70, of Nekoosa, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.
Mr. Hamel was born Dec. 17, 1933, in the town of Armenia, Juneau County, to Louis and Camille (Peck) Hamel Sr.
He married Mary Anna Worth on Jan. 26, 1957, in Nekoosa. Louis served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955.
Ossie was employed for 42 years as a purchasing agent at Nekoosa Corp., retiring in 1998.
Mr. Hamel was a member of the Nekoosa VFW and served as commander from 1986 to 1997.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Much of his spare time was spent tending his plants in his own greenhouse along with his beloved dog, P.J.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Nekoosa; his mother, Camille Hamel of Nekoosa; six children, Betty (Rick) Liaromatis of Hustisford, Cindy (Allan) Bilbao of Nekoosa, Wanda Hamel of Lake Bluff, Ill., Vallerie (Larry) McGill of Beach Park, Ill., Louis "Duke" (Michelle) Hamel of Nekoosa, and Evelyn (Gary) Arendt of Nekoosa; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Gerald (Marilyn) Hamel of Nekoosa, Clayton (Elsie) Hamel of Bergland, Mich., and Leonard (Priscilla) Hamel of Nekoosa.
He was preceded in death by his father; one son, Robert Hamel; one grandson, Jason Winters; one brother, Harry Hamel; and one sister, Audrey Kay Lester.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home in Nekoosa. The Rev. Jeannie Douglas will officiate. Interment of the cremains will take place at 10:15 a.m. Saturday in Greenwood Cemetery, town of Armenia, Juneau County, with military honors by the Nekoosa VFW Post 5960.
