NORTHPORT Henry Mitchel Leonard, age 85, of Northport, died Feb. 14, 2009, at Merrill Gardens. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Howard W. Key officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Sanford Leonard; father, Carl Clay Leonard; wife, Madge Jones Leonard; brothers, Buck, John, and Norman; and sister, Hazel Leonard Key.
Survivors includes a brother, Ivan "Red" Leonard of Holt; sisters-in-law, Barbara E. Leonard of Anniston, Joy Lynn Marra of Murrieta, Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews of Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Washington D.C., Washington State, Arkansas, and Georgia.
He served in the U.S. Navy for five years and was a member of IBEW for 60 years.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, Howard Dutton, Jeff Dutton, Jared Dutton, Buddy Champion, Nathan Champion, Gee McGee, and John McGee.
Honorary pallbearers are IBEW Local 441, Merrill Garden staff and friends, the Alberta City community, and Dr. Stephen Browne.
