(22 Aug 1935 - 11 Oct 2009)
Phillip Larry Parker, August 22, 1935 - October 11, 2009
Phillip Larry Parker was born August 22, 1935 to Philip Lafayette and Pauline Katherine Anchors Parker at Kansas City, Missouri. He departed this life of 74 years, 1 month, and 20 days Sunday evening, October 11, 2009 at Sunset Home in Concordia, Kansas.
Larry, as everyone knew him, grew up in Burlingame, Kansas. He graduated from Burlingame High School.
It was on June 6, 1959 that he was united in marriage to Ethel Marie Puterbaugh at Osage City, Kansas. This happy union was blessed with four children; twins Penny & Pam, Kimball, and Tim. They lived in Osage City, Kansas City, Kansas, and Ottawa, Kansas before moving to Lawrence in 1974 where they lived until moving to Beloit in 1997.
Larry was a communications technician. He began his career with Western Electric and a short time later became a part of the AT&T family. He later worked for the University of Kansas in a similar capacity and was honored to be acquainted with Coach Roy Williams.
He retired in 1997 and moved to Beloit. There, he took a more active role as co-owner of the Banner Restaurant.
A very kind, caring, and people-oriented person, Larry cherished life. His family and being with them was of the utmost importance to him. He had great respect for nature, spending countless hours hunting, fishing, and camping with Ethel in the motor home. Landowners knew they could trust Larry to leave their land like he found it after a fishing or hunting adventure. He was also true to the Crimson-n-Blue KU.
Larry was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Shriners.
His parents and one sister Patricia “Patty" Smith preceded him in death.
