Obituary in The Shreveport Times January 2, 1971:
Johnie W. Futrell, 59, of Rt. 2 in Broadacres, died Friday at Schumpert Hospital following a five-week illness. A native of Downsville, Mr. Futrell had been a resident of Shreveport for 18 years. He was an employee of the Beaird-Poulan Co. and a member of the Lakeview Methodist Church.
He is survived by his widow; one son, John Larry Futrell of New Orleans; four daughters, Mrs. Rose Johnson, Mrs. Linda Mitchell, Mary Ann Futrell, and Lydia Futrell, all of Shreveport; four sisters, Mrs. A.J. Parnell and Mrs. R.T. Fallin, both of Choudrant, Mrs. G.R. Weaver of Farmerville, and Mrs. J.W. Read of Winter Haven, Fla.; and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. N.O. Pugh, pastor of the Levy St. Baptist Mission, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Don Fletcher of Broadacres Baptist Church. Burial will be in Downsville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be W.O. Durr, Bill Crouse, Glynn Skinner, Robert Dodd, G.W. Holman, and Howard Mitchell.
