Vandie Watson

NORTHPORT | Vandie Watson Hewitt, age 88, of Northport, died March 17, 2015, at Heritage Health Care & Rehab. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2015, at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Thursday, March 19, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Hewitt; daughter, Juanita Hewitt; parents, Elize and Velma Watson; sisters, Doris Jones, Bernice Davis and Jane Skelton; and brothers, Ceborn Watson, Joe Watson, Levwood Watson and Junior Watson.
Survivors include her daughter, Becky Cork (Jimmy) of Ralph; son, Donnie Hewitt (Deborah) of Northport; sisters, Sederia McCormack of Orange Park, Fla., Josephine Oswalt (Kenny) of Alabaster, and Mary Porter (Adron) of Northport; grandchildren, Denita Elder (Todd), Jimmie Ann Daniels (Richard), and Brad Shelby (Katy); and great-grandchildren, Weston Daniels, Hudson Daniels, Shelby Elder, Jacob Shelby, Nathan Shelby, William Shelby and Major Culp.
Vandie was a very loving, caring, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She selflessly gave of herself to care for her family and others in her lifetime. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was a faithful member of Five Points Baptist Church for over 50 years. She truly was an example of a Proverbs 31 woman. "Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all." Proverbs 31:29.
Pallbearers will be Todd Elder, Richard Daniels, Brad Shelby, Larry Watson, Rex Bush, John Randall Porter, Randy Oswalt and Joe Hewitt.
Honorary pallbearers are Heritage Nursing Home, Hospice of West Alabama, friends and neighbors of 27th Avenue, Northport.
