Beuford Troy Shirley Jr.

Beuford T. Shirley Jr. passed away on January 1, 2022, at his home in Waynesville, NC.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Judith Ferguson Shirley, his parents, Beuford T. Shirley Sr. and Mildred T. Shirley, and his brother Rayburn C. Shirley.
Beuford was raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he attended the University of Alabama on a football scholarship under coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. Upon graduation in 1964 he joined the Miami office of Price Waterhouse. In June 1966 he answered the call of duty for the US Army and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his service in Vietnam. Upon discharge from the Army, he rejoined Price Waterhouse in Miami, and then moved to the New York City office in 1974 before being admitted to the partnership 1976. Beuford served in the New York office until 1982, and upon his promotion to Managing Partner, opened and headed the San Antonio office before being transferred to lead the New Orleans office in 1992, where he remained until his retirement in 1998.
Upon retirement, Judy and Beuford moved to Judy's hometown of Waynesville, North Carolina where they continued to be actively involved in the local community. Beuford enjoyed golf, hunting, and fishing, but most of all spending time with family. He particularly enjoyed time at his farm in Alabama teaching his grandchildren to enjoy and appreciate the outdoors.
He is survived by his three children, Susan Daw (Rob), Alison Alexander (Kurt), and Bradford Shirley (Amanda); his nine grandchildren, Cassidy and Sam Daw, Zach, Morgan, Charlie, and Taylor Alexander, Madison and Mason Shirley, and Mason Barnes; two sisters, Sylvia Bell (Chester) and Molly Tant; two brothers, John Shirley (Pam) and Paul Shirley (Sharon); as well as many nieces and nephews. Beuford and Judy were married in April of 1967 and were blessed with 52 years of marriage until her death in April of 2019.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Mt. Hebron Church in Boligee, Alabama with Reverend Stephen Makcen officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Vietnam Veterans of America at vva.org and/or the Dr. Daniel George Prostate Cancer Research Fund, which can be located at gifts.duke.edu.
The care of Mr. Shirley has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
