Mrs. Hughes, Nursing Home Operator, Dies
Mrs. Laura Holloway Hughes, 48, an owner of the Hughes Nursing Home here, died unexpectedly Friday night at her home at 1305 Prince Edward St.
She and her husband, James M. Hughes, who survives, had moved the nursing home to a new $80,000 building at 100 Caroline St. in October after operating a 20-patient home at 505 Charlotte St. for three years.
Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Mrs. Norma J. Mann and Miss Juanita Hughes, both of Fredericksburg; three sons, James Leonard Hughes, with the Air Force in Germany, Jerald McCain Hughes with the Navy, and W. Ballard Hughes of Fredericksburg; a sister, Mrs. Louise McInvalls of Falmouth; seven brothers, George A. and Eldridge H. Holloway of Fredericksburg, Roger Holloway of Alexandria, Raleigh W. and Bernard M. Holloway Jr. of Washington; James M. Holloway of Wilmington, Del. and Thomas C. Thomas with the Navy at Pearl Harbor; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the Wheeler & Thompson Funeral Home by the Rev. David R. Hepler with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Richard W. Wright, Glenn Jordan, Joe Osborne, Arnold Garland, Sterling Hall and Tommy Calamos.
