Helen Sanford Blackmon, 83, resident of 117 Greenside Dr., wife of George Tunny Blackmon, died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at her home.
Born in Orangeburg January 15, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Briggman and Daisy Lee Walling Sanford.
She was a graduate of Willow Consolidated High School, Norway, SC (Orangeburg County) and attended Piedmont Technical College. Mrs. Blackmon retired from Schlumberger and later retired from Countybank, serving both as their travel coordinator and receptionist.
A Charter member of Emerald Baptist Church and current member of West Side Baptist Church, she was also a member of the Joy and Praise Sunday School Class and the WOM ( Women on a Mission) group of the church. Mrs. Blackmon was also a member of the Daffodil Garden Club.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are two sons, Barry and wife Connie Blackmon of Bonneau and Jackie and wife Tammy Blackmon of Moncks Corner; a daughter, Kathy and husband Charles Stone of Greenwood; a sister Carmen Stillinger of Orangeburg; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson, Jackie O'Neal Blackmon and a brother, Carroll Sanford
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Wednesday at West Side Baptist Church with Rev. Hal Lane and Rev. Curt Eidson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Grant Stone, Matt Stillinger, Bayer Blackmon, Zach Calhoun, Zach Davis and Brandon Cornwell.
The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 1 pm Wednesday.
The family is at the home on Greenside Dr. and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 Tuesday evening.
