Zelda Buckingham

(23 Jan 1869 - 27 Jul 1922)

Mrs. W. P. Knox
one of the saddest deaths to occur in our city in many days was that of Mrs. W. P. Knox who passed away in Memphis last Thursday after an illness of only a few days, Sunday she was out at church and seemed in good health and high spirits. The next day she was some what indisposed, by Tuesday evening was very sick and left for Memphis accompanied by her husband and sister, Mrs. Neubert, for an operation.
Mrs. Knox was Miss Zelda Buckingham, she having been happily married about 30 years ago to Mr. W. P. "Pin" Knox. This union was blessed with four children, two sons and two daughters, Thomas Mathiston, Edwin Lee, Cleo and Juana Verne.
Mrs. Knox is also survived by her husband three brothers: J. K. Buckingham of Houston, W. W. Buckingham of this city and E. B. Buckingham of Van Beuren Ark., and six sisters: Mesdames P. E. Haley, M. H. LaGrone, R. L. Neubert and Milwee Duncan of this city; Mrs. Chas. Roper of Columbus and Mrs. George Hadley of Egypt.
Mrs. Knox was about fifty years old and had been a faithful member of the Baptist Church from an early age. She had lived an exemplary christian life and her loss will be a blow to her children, who will miss their mother's love and guidance.
Funeral services were conducted from the Baptist Church Friday afternoon by her pastor, Rev. W. A. Sullivan, assisted by Rev. E. H. Cunningham, pastor of the Methodist Church. Her remains were laid to rest in the I. O. O. F. cemetery under many floral offerings.
