**********OBITUARY**********
Rest in Peace, Arthur. Arthur, at age 86, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away on July 16, 2002. He was born on June 24, 1916 at Wauzeka, Wisconsin to Harvey A. and Adelia B. [Rose] Boyd. He was the first of ten children in a large and loving family. He grew up in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Montana and Idaho. In the 1930s. the family moved to Oregon settling first in Rockaway in Tillamook County and then in Cottage Grove, Lane County where Arthur met a life-long friend, Burton Ragan. The two worked together for a logging company in Lorane. When his family moved to Riddle and settled on a farm on the Canyonville-Riddle road, Arthur stayed with the Ragan family and continued to fall timber with Burt. On one of his visits to Riddle, Arthur met Marie Hausotter and they were married in July of 1940. Arthur fought for our freedom in World War II serving for two years in France, Belgium, and Germany. He was wounded while fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart. When Arthur returned from the war, they moved to Riddle where he built a home on the Canyonville-Riddle road. They lived in Riddle for 38 years and raised 3 sons and one daughter. Arthur spent his career falling timber, an occupation he truly loved. He enjoyed playing the banjo, mandolin, and fiddle and calling square dances at the Grange halls. He loved fishing and hunting. After he retired, Art and Marie bought a home at Lakeside, Oregon where they spent many happy days fishing, crabbing, clamming, and beach combing along the Oregon coast. Arthur was a member of the First Baptist Church of Riddle and a charter member of the VFW Thacher-Wallace Post 9744. Arthur was a kind man who always had a twinkle in his eye and a delightful sense of humor. He had many friends. He will be dearly missed by all of us.
