Janie Josephine Sexton

Janie Josephine VanZant was born February 15, 1914 in Mena, Arkansas to Thomas Edward Sexton and Emma M. McCurdy Sexton. She passed away March 24, 2010 in Carmichael, California at the age of 96.
Mrs. VanZant had been a resident of the Okemah area and also lived many years in California. She worked as a supervisor of a hospital kitchen in California for 10 years and also worked in grocery stores in both Oklahoma and Kansas. She and Vester P. VanZant were married January 10, 1931. He later preceded her in death in 1985. Mrs. VanZant was a wonderful homemaker with her favorite role in life being taking care of her family.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, three sons, Houston, Marshal and Tom, three sisters and one brother. Survivors include her son, Joe Allen VanZant of California, one daughter, Donna Jane Hatchett of North Carolina, one sister, Eddie Mae Thompson of Okemah, eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Oakdale Cemetery in Paden, Oklahoma.
Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Rev. Randall Miller.
