Dr. Charles Dale Rosenquist

Charles Dale Rosenquist was born Feb. 5, 1927 in Odebolt, Iowa, the third of four children to Charles “Charlie” and Selma “Sally” (Danielson) Rosenquist. His family farmed in Sac Co., Iowa near Kiron. Growing up he was called Dale by his family. He attended Wheeler No. 9 country school, then Kiron High School, graduating in 1944. In 1945 he entered the Army Air Corps and served with the Occupation Forces in Germany until 1947. He attended Upper Iowa College for his B. A. in History and English. He met Eleanor Jones while his sister Donna was her classmate at Immanuel School of Nursing in Omaha. They married June 7, 1953, celebrating their 60th Anniversary in 2013. He taught school in Kiron and Atlantic, Iowa and also tried farming for two years near Kiron. He returned to college to receive his Master’s degree, then Specialist in Education degree to become a school psychologist. He served in this capacity in Atlantic, Iowa and Reno, Nevada. He went back to get his Doctorate degree at Colorado State College in Greeley in 1968 then moved on to Pendleton, Oregon to become the first certified School Psychologist in that state. He loved his years at Atlantic HS, helping with Prom, as Editor of the Javelin when Charles Schultz gave permission for Peanuts characters to be included, visiting with all the Custodians & kept in touch with many friends over the years. He belonged to Gideons International, VFW in Oregon, American Legion in Kiron, and Phi Delta Kappa. He enjoyed attending 18 Army Reunions, and Kiron HS Reunions, many times doing a skit for the attendees. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Rosenquist; children: Beth Rosenquist of Omaha, Nebraska, and Bruce Rosenquist and wife Renee of Bend, Oregon; grandchildren: Neil and Emelia Rosenquist; sister-in-law, Linda Jones of Battle Ground, Washington; other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life was held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron, Iowa, with the Rev. Trish Underberg officiating. Music for the service included Jane Gronau, Soloist, singing “Children of the Heavenly Father” and “I Was There To Hear Your Borning Cry” and the congregation singing “How Great Thou Art” with Margaret Ann Buller serving as accompanist. Sharing of Memories was provided by Jim Wareham, Neil Rosenquist and Bruce Rosenquist with Jerry Buller reading the obituary. Pallbearers included Ron Salmonson, Mervin Buller, Gene Bergman, Jim Wareham, Gerald Hedstrom and Bob Christiansen. Interment was at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, Kiron, Iowa. Military Honors was provided by American Legion Post 8, Denison, Iowa, with members of American Legion Post 383, Kiron, Iowa, in attendance and taps was played by Tara Meinen. Following the graveside rites, all were invited to return to the church for fellowship and a luncheon. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home, www.pfannebecker.com, Denison, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Bethel Lutheran Church, Kiron, Iowa, Danish Museum of America, Elk Horn, Iowa, or Gideons International.

Celebration of Life Services for 87 year old Dr.Charles Dale Rosenquist of Pendleton, Oregon, formerly of Kiron, will be held at 2pm on Sunday, June 22 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron with burial at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Kiron. Charles passed away on Sunday, June 1 at his home in Oregon. Survivors include his wife Eleanor Rosenquist of Pendleton, Oregon; children: Beth Rosenquist of Omaha, NE, Bruce (Renee) Rosenquist of Bend, Oregon; 2 grandchildren; 1 sister-in-law; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation.
