Fisher James Smith

Our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on January 9, 1997, a few months short of his 90th birthday.
The son of Mary Ann Greenhalgh and Charles Daniel Smith, he was reared in Salt Lake City and attended the LDS High School, the University of Utah, and served a mission for the LDS Church in Hawaii.
Following his marriage to Marie Anson Daynes in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, they lived in Honolulu and California for the next several years.
His Army career began in 1934 when he received a commission while living in Hawaii, and continued while he was a in business in Carmel and Salinas, California.
He went on active duty with the military in 1940 at Fort Ord, California. He served throughout World War II as a supply and procurement officer for the Quartermaster Corps, first at the Presedio of San Francisco and later in the China-Burma-India theater of operations.
Following the war he and his wife went into the jewelry business in Provo and as a citizen-soldier he commanded the Third Battle Group, 96th Infantry division of the U.S. Army Reserve.
The Smith's enjoyed taking cruises and over the years traveled to many areas of the world. They generously included family members on several of these trips. Fisher was a staunch and enthusiastic fan of BYU football and basketball, often traveling to see the away from home games.
Survivors include his sister Bernice (Mrs. Waldo H. Koller), Salt Lake City, Utah; and two daughters, Jerrie (Mrs. K.A. Randall), Williamsburg, VA; and Karen (Mrs. John Oehler), St. George, Utah. His six grandchildren are: Terri White, Tana White Holm, Gregory White, Shelly Randall Millard, Nancy Randall Mackey and Tami Randall Relick. Also numbered among his loved ones are ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday January 15, 1997 in the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive (1495 East), where friends may call on Wednesday from 12:45-1:45 p.m. prior to the services.
Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
