E.E. Sides, a pioneer resident of Van Zandt county, passed away at his home in Holly Springs community, November 30, 1941.
He united with the Methodist Church there early in life, and remained a faithful member until death.
In 1888, he was married to Miss Brazzorah Everitt. To this union eight children were born, two having preceded him in death in infancy. One, Mrs. W.G. Mayes of Little Rock. Arkansas, passed away a year ago and his wife, Brazzorah, about thirty years ago. Her memory still lingers sweet in the hearts of all who knew her, nowhere could there be found veterans of the Cross whose lives of service to the master excelled that of this beloved couple.
The high standards of Christian living and true American citizenship will continue to live and bless humanity as their contribution to life by examples of their sterling character found portrayed in the lives of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In 1922, he married Mrs. Susie Stricklin. Everyone loved and enjoyed visiting in the home of Uncle Lano and Aunt Susie. Long will their lives be remembered by their deeds of kindness and words of love, by all who knew them.
The unusually large number of sorrowing friends and the huge floral offering at the last rites were a living testimony of his faithfulness even unto death. Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. Leslie LeGrande of Colfax, assisted by Rev. Mabe Barber of Tyler. Interment was in Holly Springs cemetery.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Christy Davis, Mrs. Lillian Riley, Mrs. Olga Rowan and Mrs. Verd Gunn, all of Dallas and one son, Willard Sides of Canton, Route 4; his wife, Mrs. Susie Sides; two brothers, Hiram and Mord Sides; one sister, Aunt Lila Nixon, all of Ben Wheeler, Route 2.
Active pallbearers were his nephews, Mordie Loue, Ely Roy and Rankin Sides, K.E., Tullie and Candler Pennington.
Honorary pallbearers were Mr. G.C. Howell and sons, Alvin, Eddie and Earnest Carey.
