KILLED WHILE REPAIRING TIRE
Robert Amey, 30, of 458 North 22nd Street, East St. Louis, died last night at St. Mary's Hospital, East St. Louis, of internal injuries suffered yesterday when he and his co-worker, Robert Quayle, 181, of 1311 North 15th Street, East St. Louis were struck by an automobile while repairing a tire.
Amey's death was the 11th traffic fatality for the county this year compared with four at this time last year.
Quayle, who with Amey was employed at the Walworth Naval Ordnance Plant at Washington Park, suffered minor lacerations.
Charles J. Golden of 1422 St. Louis Avenue, East St. Louis, storekeeper first class, United States Navy, admitted to police he was the driver of the car, but said he thought he had grazed an unoccupied machine.
He was booked and held suspected of careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident, pending a Coroner's inquest Monday. The accident occurred in the 1100 block of North 27th Street, East St. Louis.
