Alex Dowdy, 53, Veteran Teacher, Dies At Hospital
Alex Dowdy, 53, veteran Tuscaloosa County school teacher, died of a heart attack yesterday afternoon in Druid City Hospital after being stricken while teaching at Holt High.
He had taught in the Tuscaloosa County school system the last 27 years working in the D.O. (Diversified Occupations) class for the past 24 years.
Funeral services were to be held at 4 p.m. today at the Jones-Spigener Chapel with burial in the Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers were to be Revis Hall, Mr. Bartee, Andrew Shephard, Dr. Kermit Johnson, Hayse Hutchins and Fred Matthews Jr.
He is survived by his wife, a son, Alex Jr.; a daughter, Diane, all of Tuscaloosa; three nephews and a niece.
