John Wesley Poorman was born in Pennsylvania, the son of George and Anna Marie "Mary" (Krise) Poorman. On July 4, 1867, he married Maria Theresa Carpenter, the daughter of Younglove and Rhoda (Sabin) Carpenter.
John and Mary were parents of six children:Eva, Minnie, Pearl Helen, Byron, Charles and Lela Claire.
In 1861, John joined in the Civil War and served for three years. Civil War Veteran - CO. E. 11th MICH. INF. (1st organization) Rank in as private. Rank out as corporal.
