Melvin Walter Pedersen, 83 of rural Jackson, Nebraska passed away Monday February 10, 2014 at a South Sioux City Care Center. Services will be 1:30 P.M. Friday at CrossPointe Church, 2300 W 19th Street in Sioux City with his son Rev. Dale W. Pedersen and Rev. Bob Schoenherr officiating. Following the service at the church there will be military flag presentation by the American Legion. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery. He will be Buried when it get warmer. Visitation at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Melvin was born September 7, 1930 in rural Jackson, Nebraska the son of Walter E. and Elsie D. (Renkel) Pedersen. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He married Nancy A. Roberts June 2, 1972 in Yankton, S.D. The couple farmed in the Jackson area. He was employed at Robertson Implement and Torco R.E.M.G. He was very happy to win the Tractor Pulling Contest at the Dakota County Centennial Fair. He was a member of CrossPointe Church, American Legion Harty McNally Post 175 and the Sioux City Magic Club. Survivors include his wife Nancy, three sons and their wives: Alan B. and Cindy of South Sioux City, Dale L. and Sheila of Jackson, NE, Dale W. (Michele) of Apple Valley, Minnesota, a daughter Kathy and her husband Clint Merithew of Jackson, NE, a brother LeRoy and his wife Dee of Payson, AZ, a sister Dorothy Miles of Harrisburg, SD, 23 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren: Clinton B. Merithew and Amanda Pedersen. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Boyd Hoferman, Bill McGowan, Ray Brentlinger, Earl Messerschmidt and Dan Bowman. Pallbearers will be Alan Pedersen, Jr, Michael, Travis and Joshua Pedersen, Brandon and Aaron Merithew, Bruce Pedersen and Russ Abercrombie. Melvin will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Memorial may be directed to the family.
