Luther O'Neil Butler

Luther O'Neil Butler of Beech Island entered into rest on Monday, May 5, 2014 at his residence. He was 87 years old.
Mr. Butler, son of the late Broadus and Marie Danner Butler, was a native of Lincoln County, graduated from Lincolnton High School and served in the Merchant Marines during WWII.
Following WWII, he worked for South Carolina Electric & Gas for over 37 years and retired as assistant superintendent of the Urquhart Plant.
In 1966, he moved to Beech Island and was involved in various civic organizations and served in many capacities which include: Adjutant of the American Legion, President of Silverton Agricultural Club in Jackson, member of Beech Island Agricultural Club, and maintained the Highway Park for the Beech Island Garden Club. Also, he was a member of Goshen Baptist Church and attended First Baptist Church of Beech Island.
His first wife, Harriet Goldman Butler preceded him in death in 1970 followed by his grandson, Blake Butler Claxton.
Before his health declined, he always planted a large vegetable garden.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 8th at 2p.m. at Goshen Baptist Church, Lincoln County with Revs. Robert D. Adams and Paul Reviere officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.

The family will receive friends from 7pm until 9pm on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
