Michelena Sammut

(4 Dec 1928 - 8 Dec 2009)

Mickie Stepp Native of San Francisco and long time resident of San Bruno peacefully made her transition after a long illness; she was surrounded her family and friends. Her life came full circle as she passed a couple of days after her 81st birthday. She suffered many personal losses throughout her lifetime. She was raised at Mount St. Joseph's Catholic Orphanage, SF, along with her four sisters. It was a harsh childhood and it forged her into a tough cookie. Beneath that rough façade was a woman with a big and kind heart who would gladly give the shirt off her back to help another. She loved her family, going to Reno, and playing a good game of cards with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Bud Stepp; and her daughter, Donna Cola. Survivors include her daughter, Diana Stepp and her husband Jeff Hill, of Pacifica, CA; grandson Chad Cola, his wife Heather and son Domenic, of Pacheco, CA; granddaughter Chandra Cola; and one brother, Paul Sammut, of Seattle, WA. There will be a funeral ceremony on Monday December 14, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Lifemark Center funeral home located at Skylawn Memorial Park Cemetery Highway 92 at Route 35 in San Mateo, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either Dog Works Canine Rescue - 149 Briarwood Drive, Vacaville, CA 95688; Kaiser Hospice - 4131 Geary Blvd., San Francisco, CA 94118; or simply perform random acts of kindness toward others.Published by San Francisco Chronicle on Dec. 13, 2009.
