Ancestry.com shows that you and I share some DNA, which means that we have a common ancestor. Ancestry ThruLines calculates that our nearest common ancestor could be David Nolan Patterson, Sr. (1735-1819)

I hope to find information to confirm descent from this early ancestor.

In 1791, David Patterson sold 100 acres of land in Chester County, South Carolina, to one William Rainey. However, David Patterson’s relatives are not named in the contract, so it is difficult to know if he is our supposed ancestor.

I have a third great grandmother, Margaret Pew/Pugh, for whom there are good sources of evidence, but her parents are disputed. She may be the daughter of Eleanor “Nellie�?Patterson, and thus a granddaughter of David Nolan Patterson, Sr.
