Bernice Jeanette Kayser

Bernice Jeanette Kayser Daynes, 97, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 from Causes Incident to Old Age. She has resided at St. Joseph's Villa in the Sugar House area of Salt Lake City for the past three and a half years.
Bernice was born March 19, 1911 in Portland, Oregon to Ludwig Kayser and Augusta Villwock Kayser. Her three older sisters, Helen, Edna, and Frances, were an important part of her growing-up years. She attended elementary school, high school, and Rose City Business College in Portland. Following graduation from Business College, she worked as secretary to the president of North Pacific College of Optometry. It was during these years that she met her future husband, John Frederick Daynes, who was a student at the college. They were married in 1935, subsequently moved to Salt Lake City, and finally settled in Provo where they raised their family of four children. During her years in Provo, Bernice was active in many service organizations, among which were the Provo Service League and the Utah County Mental Health Association. Bernice filled many of her later years working for the State of Utah in Salt Lake City at the Department of Health (Cystic Fibrosis Unit) and at the Center for the Blind. Some of her favorite pastimes were reading, singing, and golf.
Bernice is survived by three children: Judith Daynes Swank (Gerald) of Seabrook, SC; Maralyn Daynes Tolman (Richard) of Incline Village, NV; John Daynes of Salt Lake City; a third daughter, Jacquelyn, predeceased her in 1964. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday afternoon, June 23, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. at the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, 4800 North 650 East, Provo, Utah.
