Hanks, Sr.; loving mother of Linda (Jack, deceased), Gail, Merry (Skip), and Robert, Jr.; sister-in-law of Anne Hanks; and devoted aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Harriet was born on March 23, 1924, at Deaconess Hospital, Cleveland, OH. She went to Cleveland Public Schools and graduated from James Ford Rhodes High School in 1942. Harriet continued her education at Oberlin College, where she received a BA in languages, particularly French Literature.
Harriet taught in the Cleveland Public Schools. She enjoyed square dancing at the YMCA. Over the years, she was a member of ACEI, the Melodeers, Joyful Bell Ringers, German Club, Spanish Club, French Club, and Brooklyn United Presbyterian Church choir and band, where she was a member for over 60 years. Harriet was an Elder and Clerk of Session off and on for almost 30 years. She loved her Church family and participated in Vacation Bible School and the Resale Shop. Harriet belonged to SWARE (Southwest Area Retired Educators), the Historical Society of Old Brooklyn, and John Knox Presbyterian Church.

Funeral Service at 12:30pm on Monday, March 8, 2021, at the Busch Funeral Home, 4334 Pearl Rd., Cleveland, OH 44109. Family will receive friends from 11:00am until time of service at the funeral home. Graveside service and interment to follow at Brooklyn Heights Cemetery, Cleveland, OH.
