Orange Baldwin Moon
(20 Dec 1805 - 4 May 1895)
Orange Baldwin Moon, born in Hinesburg, Vermont, December 20th, 1805, died at his home in La Porte City, Saturday morning, May 4th, 1895, at 1:30 o'clock, after a long and painful illness. The immediate cause of his death was dropsy, aggravated by a complication of ailments incident to old age. He resided in La Porte City for nearly twenty years, having moved here from Forestville, Iowa, in December, 1876.
Mr. Moon was a worthy citizen and enjoyed the esteem of everyone. He was a member of the Baptist church, having united with that society in Strawberry Point, Iowa, in 1859 and his daily walk was that of an exemplary Christian man. He was married in Vermont to Miss Margaret Wing, May 20th, 1831. His aged companion survives him, together with two sons, George W. Moon of Chicago, and Walter Moon of Loup City, Nebraska; and six daughters, Mrs. Phoebe McIntire, Mrs. Dell L. Stull, Mrs. Effie E. Cooper, of La Porte City; Mrs. Abbie Gilbert of Loup City, Nebraska, Mrs. Lucy M Hartman of St. Joseph, MO; and Mrs. Hannah L. Krise of Neeley, Nebraska.
The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church Sunday afternoon and attended by a large concourse of mourning and sympathizing friends. The discourse was delivered by Rev. Bradfield, an old-time friend of the deceased.
