Emma Jean Tate, age 68 of West Plains, Missouri died at 4:45 p.m., Sunday, September 5, 1999 in Ozarks Medical Center, West Plains, Missouri.
Mrs. Tate was born May 14, 1931 at Harrisburg, AR, the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Mary Ann Dodson Chatman. She received her education in the schools of Harrisburg, AR and on June 10, 1953 was married at Tyronza, AR to Allen Tate. Mrs. Tate and her family made their home in the Harrisburg, AR area until 1970 when they moved to West Plains.
Mrs. Tate enjoyed giving her time volunteering at the local nursing homes and at Birthright. Also, she made blankets and Layettes for newborns at Ozarks Medical Center.
She is survived by her husband, Allen Tate, of the family home; three children, Randall Tate and wife Freda, West Plains, Missouri, Terry Tate and wife Mary Ann, Winnfield, LA and Shelia Collins and husband Robert of Stoutland, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Brandon Tate and Monica, Yuma, AZ, Nathan Tate, West Plains, Missouri, Jeremy Tate and Sara Tate, both of Winnfield, LA, Ashley Collins and Amanda Collins, both of Stoutland, Missouri, Travis Collins and Candace Collins, both of Raymondville, Missouri; one great grandchild, Caleb Austin Pritchett; two brothers, Charles Chatman and wife Annette, Truman, AR and Jessie Chatman and wife Margaret, Harrisburg, AR; three sisters, Clara Tarkington and Viola Grantham and husband Pelton, both of Harrisburg, AR and Mary Lee Tate and husband Raymond, Granite City, IL; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Tate is preceded in death by her parents and one sister Ruby Nell Newson. Mrs. Tate became a Christian at the age of thirteen and continued to serve the Lord throughout her life. She was an active member of the Berean Baptist Church. Funeral services for Emma Jean Tate will be held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, September 8, 1999 in the Rose Chapel of the Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, West Plains, Missouri with Rev. Bob Arnold officiating with interment in Howell Valley Cemetery, West Plains, Missouri under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, West Plains, Missouri.
